  Gloomy Dream.  Dappled coloring on the half Arabian gelding matched his name, if not his temperament.  Steady and even, he was dependable and enduring.  He wasn't very high up in the order of the racer's herd in their home pastures, but his teammates seemed as fond of him as the handlers: they didn't go out of their way to bother him.  Gentle, he was fond of the younger, future racers, but mostly enjoyed days not under the saddle grazing in the shade, or standing belly deep in the river.
